Pedro Pascal To Entertain And Conquer In Gladiator 2

Pedro Pascal To Entertain And Conquer In Gladiator 2

Pedro Pascal, the man famous for conquering HBO with The Last Of Us, and Disney Plus with The Mandalorian is making a strong case for conquering the theatres with Paramount’s Gladiator 2.

According to Deadline, Pedro Pascal is in final negotiations to join Paramount’s untitled sequel to the critically acclaimed historical epic, Gladiator. Thus far the cast comprises Paul Mescal, starring as Lucius, in addition to Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen, and Denzel Washington. Ridley Scott will be returning to direct.

As of right now, Pedro Pascal’s role in the Gladiator sequel is unknown.

The Gladiator’s Legacy

Gladiator 2000 movie

The first Gladiator film was a success of monumental proportions when it made its debut in 2000. It was beloved amongst critics and audiences alike. The epic film grossed over $460 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for 12 Oscars, winning five including Best Picture. Russell Crowe’s career was catapulted by Gladiator. His brilliant performance as Maximus the Roman general who became a gladiator was symbiotic with the rest of the cast, with impeccable storytelling, and exceptional directing.

Everything about the preceding Gladiator film was so instrumental it made audiences feel like they weren’t at a cinema, but rather in the mind of an orchestra conductor experiencing his thoughts and emotions in real time. That’s exactly why it exemplifies the best of cinema and ought to be studied by any thespian or anyone serious about the craft.

To say that the sequel would have “some big shoes to fill”, would be an understatement. Our generation is already exhausted of reboots, remakes, and sequels to films that don’t warrant any. However, it’s reassuring to know that the original director, Ridley Scott is involved. Speaking for myself, I trust that he won’t permit Gladiator 2 to perform below the bar of its predecessor.

Ridley Scott also will produce, alongside Scott Free president Michael Pruss as well as Doug Wick & Lucy Fisher via Red Wagon Entertainment. David Scarpa penned the script. Also returning from the original film are John Mathieson (director of photography), Arthur Max (production designer), and Janty Yates (costume designer). The Gladiator sequel is currently set to be released on November 22, 2024.

The Rise Of Pedro Pascal

Pedro Pascal as Joel

Ever since Game of Thrones people grew enamored with Pedro Pascal due to the energy he invoked into his performance. Thanks to The Mandalorian, more people grew enamored with him without even seeing his face for a significant majority of the show.

Recently HBO’s The Last Of Us cemented Pedro Pascal’s status as one of Hollywood’s best actors right now. Between The Mandalorian and The Last Of Us, there is quite a compelling case for him to be taking home some awards when award season rolls around.

The Mandalorian and The Last Of Us have both concluded their respective seasons, with season two of The Last Of Us currently in development. The Mandalorian will return for a fourth season and it is expected that we’ll see Pascal again as the titular character in Dave Filoni’s untitled theatrical Star Wars film involving The New Republic.

Pedro Pascal’s next project will be Pedro Almodovar’s short film, The Strange Way of Life which also stars Ethan Hawke. It will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics this fall. He will also be starring in Anna Boden’s Freaky Tales which is most likely to come out later this year.
