Jon Bernthal Returns With A New Vengeance As The Punisher In 2024

It’s official, Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle is not done punishing. Marvel Studios is here to reward loyal fans of The Punisher by bringing Bernthal back as him for the upcoming Disney Plus series, Daredevil: Born Again.

Bernthal will be joining Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the new series that’s set to begin principal photography this month. Unlike previous Disney Plus shows which ranged from six to nine episodes per season, Daredevil: Born Again will be getting some extra love with not ten or thirteen, but eighteen episodes to satiate hungry Daredevil fans.

Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are orchestrating this series which is expected to come out in the spring of 2024.

Daredevil: Born Again Reintroduces Jon Bernthal As The Punisher

Daredevil: Born Again is named after the classic comic book storyline published by Frank Miller and drawn by David Mazzuchelli in 1986. The Disney Plus series will loosely adapt the comic to an extent.

In the original story, The Punisher was completely absent as there was no need for him. The endless duel of good and evil with the gray area that lies between was the pivot of the plot as Daredevil’s rivalry with his nemesis Kingpin reached a boiling point.

The nature of The Punisher’s role in the upcoming Born Again series remains to be seen, but the circumstances should be pretty grim for him to get involved.

Jon Bernthal first portrayed Frank Castle, the eponymous Punisher in the sophomore season of Netflix’s hit Daredevil series back in 2016. Not long after that, he starred in his own series, The Punisher, for two seasons.

Daredevil: Born Again comes years after Netflix’s Daredevil series which ran for three seasons. Before the days of Disney Plus, Netflix housed many of Marvel’s original series including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in addition to Daredevil and The Punisher of course.

Netflix canceled those shows because Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios folded Marvel Television into the former in a strategy to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of its launch on Disney Plus.

Many of us thought that Bernthal and his fellow actors of the Netflix era were done with Marvel. Now we’re glad to be wrong. In an interview with THR, Feige revealed that the Netflix era actors aren’t exactly off the table.

“Everything is on the board. That’s one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go. All of it is inspiration for the future. There are some great characters and actors from those shows.”

Then we saw Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the theater erupted with the cheers of excited fans. Later after that, we saw him in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, fully suited as Daredevil this time.
