Vampires vs The Bronx follows Miguel Martinez also known as “Little Mayor” as he does everything he can to save his neighborhood from gentrification with the help of his friends, now that is no easy task especially when there are vampires involved.
This Vampire flick is a new addition to Netflix for this Halloween season, based on an original story written by Osmany “Oz” Rodriguez with the screenplay written by Blaise Hemingway. By no means is this a traditional “horror flick”. In full transparency, it is a comedy horror that delivers a fresh deep compelling story than what appears on the surface.

We see many new faces here as the main cast consists of mostly young relatively new or unknown actors, which is quite refreshing to see. We also see some familiar faces in the supporting cast and one very surprising one only in the opening scene.
I do not know whether or not the opening scene was intended to be scary or comedic, there was a brief suspenseful moment followed by some “over the top” acting but that’s a minor matter, the rest of the film was executed smoothly with great acting from the cast. The young cast has so much potential and I hope to see more of them, they had great chemistry with each other and displayed mastery over their respective roles as well as the subject matters.

We don’t see much acting from the vampires really, there were five of them, and three of them did the most acting especially the leader or “commander” who was the primary antagonist. However, the vampires do not fail to make their presence known. It is conveyed that the vampires are used for social commentary as they embody corporate execs who do not care about lower-class citizens whatsoever.
The storyline is excellent, Oz did a fantastic job writing and directing, absolutely no doubt about that. He was able to blend suspense and comedy all while paying homage to classic vampire fiction and being socially conscious about the Bronx with Finesse. Vampire fans would appreciate how Oz maintains traditional elements of vampires in a contemporary setting.
These vampires are not a bunch of pretty people you will find in a teen drama, also they do not sparkle. They are objectively horrifying to look at, my applause goes out to the makeup artist.
A Surprisingly Beautiful Love Letter To Home
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it was a great story that delivered quite a cathartic ending. After watching this movie you’d realize that Oz has been writing a love letter to the Bronx on behalf of the people who live there clearly saying, “We will protect you, no matter what, we will not be afraid.” I think that’s absolutely beautiful and poetic.
Vampires vs the Bronx was an excellent movie, it is very difficult to not like this, if you do not believe me, be sure to check it out and see for yourself.
