Run Hide Fight is an action thriller film that debuted at the Venice Film Festival in September 2020, however, it was acquired by The Daily Wire and premiered on their platform in January 2021.

The film follows 17-year-old Zoe Hull (Isabel May) as she uses her intellect, survival tactics and combat skills handed down to her by her father, Todd Hull (Thomas Jane) to save her school from live streaming shooters led by a troubled student, Tristan Voy (Eli Brown).

Run Hide Fight Dares To Be Brave

Run Hide Fight Isabel May

There have been very few occasions where I got goosebumps from watching an action movie, this is one of those occasions. Kyle Rankin took relevant and controversial subject matter to make Run Hide Fight the brilliant contemporary action film that it is.

The storyline is one that I strongly applaud and it was clearly very well written. The relationship between action and drama was symbiotic, the pacing was consistent and the acting was flawless. Honestly, this just may be the longest I have ever gone watching a film without blinking.

The Face Of A Hero

Run Hide Fight

Isabel May gave a fierce performance as our heroine, Zoe Hull. She sells herself as a girl dealing with a recent trauma who is forced to overcome it in such extreme circumstances to save her classmates and teachers. She showed the range of emotions presented in her character of Zoe, we saw her withdrawn, grieving, scared and courageous, at no point did her performance fall flat.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by Isabel, I know her as Katie from the Netflix sitcom, Alexa and Katie as Katie and let’s just say Katie is a far departure from Zoe. Now that I know more of what Isabel May can do I will most definitely be keeping an eye out for her.

The Face Of A Menace

Eli Brown Run Hide Brown

Eli Brown maintained a menacing presence as the primary antagonist, Tristan Voy, he was sadistic, manipulative, narcissistic and wanted everyone to know it. Every scene he was in left me feeling rather uneasy as he was so terrifying and unpredictable while sporting a smile on his face most of the time like he’s having the time of his life.

I’ve never seen Eli Brown prior to this film and I hope to see him again however with a much different role.

The Faces Of Run Hide Fight

Olly Sholotan Run Hide Fight

The supporting cast complimented Run Hide Fight quite nicely. Thomas Jane was strong, stoic and quietly intense as Zoe’s father,

Todd. Treat Williams played Sheriff Tarsy, the stress and pressure of getting everything under control were very much visible in his portrayal. Like Thomas, Treat was strong and stoic, though he didn’t match Thomas’s quiet intensity. Thomas and Treat didn’t receive as much screen time as their cast-mates but they each had a strong presence.

Olly Sholotan did a wonderful job as Zoe’s best friend, Lewis Washington. He was horrified throughout the movie and I felt it because he did not take anything for granted in his performance. It was refreshing to be reminded of how small details in an actor’s performance can make a big difference.

The shakiness in his voice, the look in his eyes, the tightness of his jaw along with the rest of his body language were that of someone who fears for his life. His performance was so realistic at one point I found myself praying, asking God to protect him and keep him safe.

Run Hide Fight May Not Be For Everyone

Viewer Discretion

Seeing that the subject matter involves a school shooting and there’s so much graphic violence, I need to say viewer discretion is advised. However, this isn’t about the school shooters, this is about a heroic girl fighting them so that she can save the lives of her peers and that’s the most important thing to take away from Run Hide Fight.

Zoe Hull embodied the very best of humanity and Tristan Voy and his minions embodied the very worst of us but they all fell at the hands of Zoe, when you really think about that you’ll find something very beautiful and poetic about it. We should never forget how one person can make difference and Run Hide Fight does an incredible job at reminding us of that.
