Godzilla Vs Kong, the fight of the century has arrived for your viewing pleasure.

In this corner, we have, “The Ultimate Weapon, “The King Of Monsters”, Godzilla! In this corner, we have, “The Eight Wonder Of The World”, “The King Of Skull Island”, King Kong! Ladies and gentlemen, in the immortal words of Michael Buffer, “Let’s get ready to rumble!”

This is a movie we have all been waiting for. What you see here is basically a story of Goliath vs Goliath, neither one of them is David. The battle between Godzilla and Kong is one filled with shock and awe and while it is indeed epic, it may be at humanity’s expense because regardless of who wins, humans lose.

The story structure hits off with an element of intrigue followed very closely by a wow factor. The writers did not hesitate to introduce some strong plot points early in the script and I like that. The sooner a movie can get you invested, the better, fortunately, that was accomplished here, maintaining that interest is another story, I’ll get into that later so keep reading.

The Cast Caught In The Middle Of Godzilla Vs Kong

Godzilla Vs Kong cast

The ensemble cast consisted of truly talented actors, some of the characters were critical, others not so much.

The first character I met was Jia, played by Kayla Hottle, a deaf orphan girl who shares a special bond with Kong. She was the heart of the film, she was unable to say a single word and she still managed to invoke a plethora of emotions, her performance was truly inspiring and her presence was a reminder to not let anything stop you.

I admire the initiative to include such a strong representation of the deaf community.

Millie Bobby Brown was another lead as her character, Madison Russell. She was bold, courageous, stubborn, and also quite annoying at times.  She did a good job playing a bratty teenager who helps save the day. In all honesty, I was quite bored with most of the scenes she shared with Brian Tyree Henry and Julian Dennison who played Bernie Hayes and Josh Valentine respectively.

While their characters may have been integral to the storyline, the chemistry was forced and the dialogue was filled with stale humor. In many instances, I kept thinking, “just hurry up and get it over with so we can get back to the rest of the movie”.

I enjoyed the performances by Rebecca Hall and Alexander Skarsgard. Rebecca Hall was brilliant as Dr. Ilene Andrews, she had full mastery over her expressions in each of her scenes and showed a natural maternal persona as you may see in her scenes with Kayla Hottle.

Now on to Alexander Skarsgard, who played Nathan Lind. He was the masculine hero archetype, there’s something about him that reminds me of Chris Pratt’s character from Jurassic World. Anyways, he was charismatic and very interesting to watch.

There’s a fascinating backstory for Lind and Skarsgard was truly proficient in understanding his character. The rapport between Rebecca Hall and Alexander Skarsgard was enjoyable, the chemistry between them was organic and I loved how they remained completely platonic.

I have seen way too many action movies that tried to shove unnecessary romance down my throat and I am relieved that there’s none of that nonsense here.

Where Did Godzilla Vs Kong Go Wrong?

Do you remember what I said about maintaining interest? Okay, time for me to elaborate. After the first round between Godzilla and Kong, the movie straggles along until its final act. It’s clear that not enough focus was put on the storyline.

This film started off engaging, got boring, then got engaging again. Also, there were some plot elements that made little to no sense and there were a few instances where the laws of physics apparently did not exist.

Godzilla vs Kong is a fun movie, it most certainly is not a great movie but it’s fun to watch for the action, visuals, and special effects.

The action was adrenaline-raising, and the visuals and special effects were stunning, dynamic, and explosive. On the other hand, the plot could have used some more work. I have seen this movie twice and I have no intention to see it again, for those of you who do or still have yet to see it, feel free to check it out on HBO MAX.
